In early spring 2019, we removed two large van loads of fly-tipped rubbish from the site of our Community Orchard & Permaculture Garden. We also made a stab at clearing the undergrowth, but nature clearly had other ideas.
This is what the land looks like now ...
I heeled in the bare root trees and bushes this weekend. Hope I did it properly ...
We have now have a total of £462 for the community orchard & permaculture garden. £400 from The Orchard Project and £62 from the sale of raffle tickets. We actually sold £124 worth of tickets but we decided to split the proceeds 50:50 with the Toilet Project. Land clearance and super-tall mature tree pruning are two MAJOR costs for the project. Thankfully, some help may be on the way courtesy of two members … Watch this space!
They've started arriving! A number of organisations will be providing us with free fruiting trees and bushes or grants with which to purchase them. We are SO grateful. Our first arrivals are from the Mayor of London and The Conservation Volunteers. We'll have to 'heel them in on one of my plots though, as the land isn't ready yet. They'll be fine! Exciting!
